Derek is an experienced and enthusiastic property builder and influencer who creates vibrant communities around his impressive structures.

His introduction to real estate development formally began at the beginning of the 2008 recession. Derek already had years of real-world practice, building spec houses with his architectural father each summer. Colonial Williamsburg greatly influenced his admiration for historical preservation throughout his undergraduate years at William & Mary College. Seeking hands-on experience in the multifamily real estate market, Derek secured a position with a property management organization. When he was ready, he founded his own long-term-hold real estate company.

During the housing crisis, Derek bootstrapped a brand, assembled a team from the ground up, and did due diligence on the urban renewal needs of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. The result was a stabilized portfolio worth $100 million within five years of launch.

Not stopping there, Derek and his team gave tenants more than just a place to live. They provided the resources for residents to interact throughout the downtown and neighboring Heartside and Heritage Hill areas.
